Side Hustles You Can Start With £0

Yes, you read that right, £0. We have all been there googling "How to make quick money ASAP", "How can I make £100 in a day" or even "How can I make money in an hour". So, here are 10 side hustles that you can start with no cash whatsoever.

First things first, in case you didn't know, a side hustle is a piece of work or a job that you get paid for doing in addition to doing your main job. In layman's terms, it's basically a second job. Starting a business is extremely challenging for non-millionaires. So here are some side hustles you can do for free:

1. Selling your Possessions

I love this side hustle because it not only makes you money, but you also get to declutter your home! I find selling online is more profitable than selling in person at a car boot sale!

I personally use online marketplaces like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Vinted and Depop can be highly profitable. People are always amazed at just what will sell and often it can be things you would have just thrown away or recycled. From empty liquor bottles, empty perfume bottles, designer gift bags as the saying goes "One Man's trash is another man's treasure".

2. If you can drive or cycle you can make money

So many people are delivering takeaways or groceries through various apps. When we couldn't leave our homes during the pandemic and restaurants were closed - delivery service apps were overwhelmed with the number of orders. These platforms were putting out incentives to get people to join. If you can spare a couple of hours in the evening, you could be raking in an extra £200 a week as a delivery driver.

Some places to look are Just Eat, Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Amazon Flex.

3. Online Tutoring

One of my favourite no-cost side hustles is online tutoring.  If you’ve got a skill that you can share, then it is worth looking into.

There are several companies out there recruiting tutors and they will provide you with all the software you need to connect with your students. The reason that I love this side hustle is that it is completely flexible. You can do it in your free time, after the kids have gone to bed, or even before work.

4. Leverage your Digital Skill

The easiest way to earn a side income without spending money is by leveraging your digital skills. You can work from the comfort of your own home and utilize the skills that you already have through websites like Fiverr and People Per Hour. You can do freelance writing, content marketing, photography and so much more. If there is a topic that you are particularly passionate about, consider starting a blog based on the topic. It might take a while, but there are so many ways to generate income from a blog.

5. Participate in Online Surveys

For once, your opinions can finally make you money. There are countless companies and market researchers that want to know what people think of their products and services. One way they find out is by asking consumers to fill out surveys for them. Filling out surveys probably won’t pay your bills, but it can line your pocket with some spending money for the weekend or for that trip you want to take.

Some websites to check out: YouGov, Swagbucks and Atta Poll

6. Sell Digital Products

If you have some graphic design skills and can use a program like Canva or Photoshop, you can start selling on Etsy or Instagram. There have been high demands for digital planners, home decor, quotes, books and more since we all set up offices from home. Because Etsy is such a large marketplace, you're exposed to a huge audience to make income passively.

7. List an Experience on Airbnb

Another great way to create some extra income is to list an experience on Airbnb. Gone are the days of having to rent out your room - everyone can now get in on the action. These pay well and you get to meet awesome people from around the world. You can create and design an experience on whatever you’re interested in or love about your city - such as taking tourists to your favourite pubs or giving tours of your favourite areas.

8. Proofreading

Freelance proofreading is a great side hustle to start! You can literally make money by spotting mistakes in any online document or blog post. As the volume of online content increases, there is a growing demand for proofreaders to polish the content before publication. Another benefit is you can work from anywhere in the world!

9. Cryptocurrency

If you want to try your luck in the crypto market, you’ll need first to learn enough about cryptocurrencies - their worth, frequent fluctuations, the demand, and the best tools to keep you updated.

There are several crypto trading platforms, but only a handful of them give accurate, real-time, and trustworthy data. However, getting started with crypto investing or trading is a rather basic and uncomplicated procedure.

Remember to always do your research and your capital is at risk. This is not financial advice.

10. Offering a service or a solution to a problem.

One of my least favourite sayings is ‘You need to spend money to make money' - it’s simply not true! The best business to get into is offering a service or a solution to a problem.

Take cleaning as an example - you can start out by simply offering your services for ironing or weekly house cleaning. Chances are you have your own iron at home and the people that would like their house cleaned already have a hoover and supplies you can use - they just don’t want to do it themselves and you are the solution to that problem!
